Theresa Jacobs is department director of cosmetology for Florida Career College where she oversees the cosmetology program for all its Florida campuses. Jacobs, who launched the college's recently-applied twelve-month cosmetology diploma/certification course, claims her own experiences: from stylist to educator, prepared her for this job. That is because Jacobs' industry expertise started from the bottom up, being a stylist, salon owner and educator. She is in charge of forming the core curricula. Those who are decided about a career in cosmetology really need to respect state requirements to get licensing and certifications, she says. College students need to learn about the business area. They need to develop soft skills for customer service. They take a board exam. Creating a career course and forming authority necessitate similar foundations, states Jacobs.
The path begins with education and intersects with certifications and instruction, mentoring, work experiences and continuous education.
